1987 Brief Narrative

In February 1987 CDR J.L. McCLANE RELIEVED CDR J.D. LASSWELL as Commanding Officer of the WADDELL

After completing a most successful refresher training which included a record-setting performance firing torpedos on the ASW Range, WADDELL departed February 1987 for the MIDDLE EAST FORCE.  While there, WADDELL conducted surveillance, patrol and escort operations and assisted the damage control effort for USS STARK and rescued STARK crewmembers from the waters of the Persian Gulf. 

After liberty port visits to Phuket, Thailand and Hong Kong, WADDELL returned home to San Diego, in August 1987.
